Too many times nowadays we here the infamous "R" word. More often I hear it being used in a derogatory manner, "that's retarded", but the person is really trying to say "that's messed up". In today's world we rarely care about our surroundings and will say whatever we like without thinking about the person next to us and their feelings. I would like for The ARC to change their name. ARC stands for Association of Retarded Citizens and I would like them to change it to something more appropriate . I am suggesting AIDD (seems how that is what they do for these folks. AIDD stands for the Association of Intellectually and developmentally disabled. We cannot try and make a change or challenge others to reach out of we ourselves in this field can respect those we serve. We need to stop thinking about all of these wonderful talented people as being disabled and instead seeing them as differently abled. Please help me get the word out and see if we cant make a difference. Be a part of this !
