NO MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARY IN SANTA VENETIA!
The County of Marin is currently reviewing an application from "Delta 11" for a medical marijuana dispensary at 70 San Pablo Avenue, which is located at the gateway to our neighborhood at the intersection of N. San Pedro and San Pablo Avenue (across the street from the Santa Venetia Market and the County Civic Center). This business will add to our already challenging traffic problems, could negatively affect thousands of children that attend schools within a mile of this location, and could increase crime in the area. Santa Venetia is not an appropriate location for this, the first of its kind medical marijuana dispensary in Marin County.
- TRAFFIC IMPACTS ON THE COMMUNITY: The location of this particular dispensary could become one of the most utilized sites in the County as it is located right off Hwy 101, making it very easy for people to get to (which is most likely why it was chosen). In a presentation given to the Advisory Board on February 16th, Delta 11 reported that it has 9,000 current customers. These customers are currently served through their "home delivery" service. If this proposed facility is approved, we will potentially see a HUGE increase in traffic due to Delta 11's large customer base. The number of clients and increased volume of traffic cannot be supported by this location.
- AFFECTS ON CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY: There are 6 schools, 5 county parks, a library, a dog park, and the County Civic Center with many family events within a mile of this facility (some as close as a ¼ mile). Many children walk along a route within 100 feet of the proposed facility both to and from schools and the other facilities mentioned above. The location of this facility is not appropriate in a community that serves so many children and neighborhood families.
- CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITY: Delta 11 is primarily a cash based business, there is a real danger for armed robbery of cash (as well as product) that will be kept on site. We experienced this in our community years ago when another dispensary was running a business off of N. San Pedro Road. This incident resulted in a multi-agency armed response, a high speed vehicle chase through China Camp, and arrest of four suspects.
The issue at hand is NOT whether you agree with Medical Marijuana dispensaries in general, but rather, if this is the best location for a dispensary. This particular location is designated as "Commercial", but it is not a true "commercial area" as it is surrounded by residential neighborhoods on all sides. The applicant for this proposed facility ("Delta 11") claims that there will be no negative impact to our community, but there is no data to support that claim. Delta 11 has never run a storefront, so there is no way that they can assure us that we will not see added traffic, a potential uptick in youth marijuana use and crime.
THIS IS YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD! Please sign this petition if you agree that the Marin County Administrator Matthew H. Hymel and the County Medical Advisory Committee should deny the medical cannabis dispensary license application for the 70 San Pablo site.
