As members of the BCTF, we believe every BC teacher has the right to choose whether they receive the COVID-19 vaccine, or not, without consequence, embarrassment or harassment by their employer, union or community.

A video message on Employee Rights and the COVID-19 Vaccine by Canada's top Constitutional lawyer, Rocco Galati, verifies that forced vaccinations are a direct violation of the civil liberties of all Canadians, the Canadian Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights, and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights[1]

We also acknowledge that the BC Nurses Union will not mandate vaccinations but encourages vaccination. [2]

We also acknowledge that The Canadian Armed Forces state, ‘Like other vaccines provided to CAF members, the COVID-19 vaccine will not be mandatory; this remains a voluntary option for all.’[3]

As teachers, we stand together, for choice. Consent matters.

We will lose too many wonderful teachers with a vaccine mandate. Everyone needs choice in how they take care of their health. The vaccine does not prevent transmission… so a mandate will not accomplish anything except losing teachers or forcing them into something they are not comfortable with.

Case reports and studies do not show a mandate solving the pandemic problem but students do need their teachers. Let us do what we were born to do: help, teach and care for children

My body my choice. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is clear section 6.1 and 7.1 & 2 state the government cannot force any medical treatment on it's citizens and my medical history is between me and my doctor.

Mandating masks and vaccination violates personal medical choice. Coercion is not choice. If it’s really about health, the measures should match the data. That is not happening.

I fear for my career's future if we are mandated to get this shot. I will not be forced to take something I am not comfortable taking. Nor do I think it is necessary.

I draw the line at bodily autonomy. Medical freedom. Medical information remaining confidential. Informed consent and coercion cannot happen simultaneously!! It's one or the other. Not both. PLEASE keep teacher's rights intact!

We live in a democracy that is based on freedom of choice. Thus, Vaccinations should be optional.
