Protect Gunbarrel's Local Wildlife Through the Creation of a Greater Twin Lakes Open Space - Stop City Annexation and High Density Growth

Don't let Boulder become just another suburb. Protect our open spaces.

As a long time resident I find this idea very upsetting. These fields have been open space for more than the 30 years I have lived here and the sneaky manner in which this is being transformed into housing feels illegal or underhanded at best. These are open space by virtue of decades of community usage. In addition the area provides access for a variety of wildlife including the owls which nest nearby each year. Do not build on this land.

Please leave it as open space. we have so little of it left.

The City of Boulder is out of control. They disregard that they are working for the people of Boulder, not the developers. Council members routinely ignore residents around issues of development. They have ruined our neighborhood with high density development and have illegally continued with plans to develop another small parcel at the end of PaloParkway, along with Boulder Housing Authority. These folks don't care and will do what they want no matter what. If they annex ANY open space, you can kiss it all goodbye. They need to be stopped, NOW!

This intended proposal threatens the integrity of open space through Boulder county. Commissioners, please respect established rules.

Trying to come in the back door on lands that have been designated as Open Space is the beginning of the end of protecting Boulder County's health and vitality.

Stop city annexation.

As taxpayers we have voted numerous times for the City & County of Boulder to purchase land for the SOLE purpose of retaining open space. IF the city council wants to change the zoning for ANY parcel of land they should have to put it on a ballet and allow the taxpayers to vote for this change. It's not their decision it's the taxpayers!

I would like the parcels on Twin Lakes to remain as open space for the many reasons that have been offered by the Twin Lakes Action Group. Please take the time to review all documents, scientific and otherwise, provided by TLAG.

Let's create that larger open space. Re-zoning this to higher density is a seriously flawed idea, and is opposed by the voters.

I live in Country Club Estates which is actually part of the City of Boulder due to its gerrymandered city limits. In the last 11 1/2 years I've asked for city amenities that my taxes have already paid for: a library, a recreation center, a middle school, a high school, a bicycle/pedestrian path to downtown Boulder, simply fixing the neighborhood roads! And no response. If the city can't provide infrastructure and basic services to the existing population, I am completely against any effort to add new housing until we get the services that have already been paid for.

I strongly oppose any land use designation or zoning change for this land and I strongly oppose annexation of these properties into the City of Boulder.

A big loud NO to development, and annexation!!!!

Boulder has plenty of land to build pricey apartments but not for low cost housing. Our twin lakes area is one the last natural, untouched areas in the county. Why is there this need to spoil that when I'm sure they could find land within the city limits if they really tried. They seem to find the land for every other thing they want.

Wife and I have lived very near the proposed construction site for 22 years, are retired and walk around the Twin Lakes almost every day enjoying the peace, open space, owls, and serenity of these lakes. Housing will destroy the lakes' creatures' habitat. Gunbarrel is already too crowded. re: housing near King Sooper. Traffic on Twin Lakes Rd. would increase dramatically if this development occurs causing difficulties to cross our intersection AND at traffic light, 63rd and Twin Lakes Rd. Affordable housing should be built, instead, near shopping areas, so people can more easily get to stores, other services, and bus stops. The proposed building of this development is too population intensive, stand out, look out of proportion compared to dwellings nearby, impose on natural environment next to it, and does not fit with surrounding area. Much air pollution, and traffic noise will increase if building occurs. The annexation proposal is unfair. County and City.........listen to us long-time, residents !!

Open space is preserved for a reason. We don't need more high density development in Gunbarrel; the increased traffic is already impacting me as a Gunbarrel home owner in a negative way.

Too crowded for surrounding infrastructure, will cause many more issues in the future. Additionally, affordable housing is often used by persons needing public transportation, which is inadequate for the greater Gunbarrel area. Try builing some affordable housing downtown and near CU, where it is actually needed!

The twin lakes are both beautiful and necessary part of the Gunbarrel neighborhood, providing desperately needed flood protection and improving the lives of everyone in the area through ample outdoor space for walking, biking, off leash dog parks. The area also shelters many valuable breeding grounds for local animals such as the Great Horned Owl. The surrounding fields along Twin Lakes Road provides a needed for additional runoff while insulating the habitats of the owls, foxes, ospreys, and pelicans which dwell near or around the lake. Further development would mangle this incredible resource, hurting the thousands of residents and countless plants and animals who call Gunbarrel home with no representation to given to the local residents.

Boulder needs to walk the walk and talk the talk. Increasingly Boulder talks about open space and the environment but then we see ideas like this where it is clear our civic leaders are bowing to either powerful developers or special interests or worse. Keep this land open space.
