Incarcerating kids is a terrible response to a far larger issue. Don't do it.

There are good reasons why juvenile detention is different from a maximum security adult prison. In the adult prison, these kids would most surely be subjected to unreasonable physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. That would surely result in lifelong trauma and increased recidivism. What benefit could possibly be the benefit of that move?

Please invest in helping families and communities instead of perpetuating cruelty. Louisiana was once a leader in thoughtful youth justice. Putting kids in Angola will be seen by the world as racist and sadistic.

My white brother was at Angola. I visited him twice. Absolutely no place for juveniles.

Protect these children and don't send them to be schooled in criminality in the prison with the worst reputation in the country. Give the children a chance to reform.

You are going from a program of "youth justice" in Louisiana to a program of outright child abuse. This turns young offenders into chronic adult criminals. Is this what you want to be known for?

No child, in any country, should ever be housed in the same cells that once held convicted men. It is even worse considering that the children that may be sent there have not been convicted of a crime. Even if a child has been convicted of a crime they still should not be kept in a maximum security adult prison.

Where is our humanity? Please think before making this decision, Governor Edwards.
