I am not surprised this is happening in Louisiana. I doubt the Governor ever read a page of his state’s history

Placing young people in this environment is not an answer. Re-think how the system can work with/educate/mentor them so they learn from their mistakes.

No kids in Angola Prison. Approving this measure would ensure additional trauma and disrespect for Black/Brown bodies/families. Let's move to reform, educate and train these young people so that they can contribute to their communities. This is a shameful proposal!

Kids, in particular, need settings most conducive to rehabilitation, not stricter confinement.

This is a cruel thing to do to children who should be getting HELP in order to keep them out of adult prisons.

Do not condemn youth to lives of incarceration. Give them the chance for rehabilitation, care and treatment as my church and faith profess.

Angola is a symbol of white supremacy and racial oppression, as it has transformed from slave plantation, to labor camp for convict leasing and now, the nation’s largest prison known for its human rights abuses. There is a direct line between slavery and Governor Edward’s plan to move mostly Black boys onto the grounds of Angola. Louisiana was once a national youth justice leader, investing in a system based in rehabilitation, treatment and care. It can be again, if Governor Edwards makes a different choice and invests in kids, hope and care, instead of punishment.

At first a headline with the words children and Angola prison, I imagined it regarded the country of Angola, not a prison in the US. How can this country continue to proclaim itself the best in the world while allowing this type of barbaric practice. Shame.
