Tell the City of Portland and Multnomah County: No homeless camp/village near our schools and preschools!

I reside a few blocks from the proposed homeless camp and am against this location.

I get that there is an epidemic of homelessness, not only here but all over, AND I sympathize, even Empathize, with the homeless, sincerely. However, and I say this humbly, having endured some challenging struggles of my own; each one of us, as adults, are responsible for the consequences of the choices we make for ourselves and our lives. Regardless of the difficult circumstances we face, we are all granted free will and choices at every turn; when we make poor choices (and we almost ALWAYS know better), it is pure Nature that we suffer the consequences of those choices, and it is ONLY by the adversities that we face in life, whether self induced or by no fault of our own, that we're granted OPPORTUNITIES to learn and grow as humans. Enabling people to avoid the cross they CHOOSE, consciously or subconsciously, to carry, isnt actually doing anyone any favors. It sucks. To say that Life is hard is a massive understatement, but it's up to each individual to rise above our most painfully difficult challenges and CHOOSE to learn from our mistakes (or lessons rather, should we choose to Learn from them), and grow into the people we REALLY are. OR we can CHOOSE to be helpless victims, martyrs, and a burden on society- to quit on ourselves, give up on life, and live in denial, refusing to take responsibility for ourselves and attempt to manipulate society into bearing the burden that is not theirs to bear. We all have our own cross and we all have choices. Even our CHILDREN, many of them, prematurely have their own hellish suffering to endure. Life isn't fair, for ANYONE, least of all for the innocent youths who are ALREADY exposed to all kinds of malice and malevolence in this world. It's not our job as caretakers of the future citizens of society to shelter them from real life; it IS our job to strengthen them, HOWEVER, it's ALSO not in the best interest of ANYONE to INTENTIONALLY ALLOW them to be exposed, So prematurely, to even MORE chaos, negativity, and other va

This doesn't make sense at all. Why next to the school? For the city to pay for the monthly lease to the church for a "temporary" band aid "solution" when so much land is available that the city already owns!

To close to schools and businesses

I’ve had to call 911 seen from multiple homeless camps where fires rage out of control. This is not a solution.

There has to be a better location. This is not the best spot and the church has already had complaints in the past. No one in the neighborhood wants to see that multiply especially so close to schools and library.

If the church was not becoming more enriched by taxpayer dollars this would be harder to oppose. So near a school not a good idea. A true face to face census for the people of St. JOHNS is needed for this one. Also Wapito needs to happen.

Yes, we need to find a place for these people. Close proximity to a large group of young children is not the right place.

Please reconsider the location for our children's sake.

Transitional housing should be located in a site that is comfortable and safe for both the area and for themselves. In the middle of family homes and a school is not a good location.

Do not go forwad with this camp. Not only is it next to schools it is also next to the Multnomah County Library.

The City has an empty government owned building on Columbia with an actual roof, kitchen and plumbing, the 40k/annually could go to helping the homeless recover from addiction and get proper treatment for mental illness, instead it’s going towards keeping a dying church open. The location chosen for this camp is a disgrace to our community. It should not be attached to a preschool and next to elementary school which already has two needle pick ups a day in the playground due to PPOP nearby. What are you going to hit the schools with next?

Downtown? Excuse me? I live in "The Hollow" part of Goose Hollow, which is the part between Providence Park and I-405; and all kinds of high impact services are focused around the downtown Safeway area such as James Hawthorne supportive SRO, New Avenues for Youth halfway house, Outside In homeless youth soup kitchen/halfway house, Operation Nightwatch all clustered together. So, all kinds of problems attributed to vagrant drug addicts (homeless youth drug addicts are among the highest criminality subpopulation) from downtown side regularly gush into my neighborhood. How can you wish more into downtown that is going to worsen things in the residential area adjacent to downtown?! The property taxes here are very high relatively to value of the home and ours is north of $5,000/year and we experience insane amount of crime that ruling class people who from Vista Ridge and King's Hill rarely experience in their living situation.

Do not build this home for the mentally challenged near a school or in a neighborhood.

Not saying all homeless people r bad but most of the ones in st johns r bad and i dont feel putting a camp tht close to a school or any school for tht matter should be ok. They say keep r children aware and safe how can we do tht if r very own church is putting them in danger

When fixing one problem creates another the result is not equal to a solution.
