No Generative AI At Berklee- Disband Bots, Beats and Bytes

Berklee is a disgrace for doing this, may your protesting not be in vain.

Former Berklee student, absolutely appalled this was even considered among such a well respected staff of musicians. Generative AI steals music, and represents the antithesis of what being a musician is. How did this come from a place full of people who have spent their lives refining a craft that generative AI spits in the face of?

Knowledge is powerful. Let’s continue to learn as a society.

As a student at Humber, I fear for the influence this class will have on institutions around the world, as Berklee often sets the standard for music programs worldwide.

Paying over $30,000 a semester to go to this college, and now they are trying to force us to learn how to make AI slop. What has Berklee become? What is our money going to?

Ban AI music (if you can even call it music), support human creativity

I am working on a degree at Berklee Online. I am going to stop taking classes unless they take a stand against AI in music. Suno is not music. It is a computer algorithm. Music is made by humans.

Imagine in a generation having Berklee on your resume meaning you wasted a lot of money to learn nothing, who would trust that a Berklee musician is actually competent in their craft when the craft is just an ad for a hyped theft slop machine.

The idea that Berklee, infamous holy land of hyper specialized technical proficiency and mastery, would try to insert generative AI alongside it's other courses as though it's a valuable teachable skill with any sort of technique involved is absolutely brain dead insane. Generative AI is not a useful new exciting tool representing new horizons in music and the arts, it needs to be absolutely and impolitely destroyed.

AI is not craft, it is not art, it's not a skill. Typing "make me a pop song in the style of Ariana Grande" is just open theft that spineless administrators allow because they get a kickback from venture capitalists. If you're enrolling students who want to work on their craft and make amazing art only to tell them that their craft is worthless and they should learn to use AI, then you aren't running a school. You're running a sweatshop. A slop farm. Destroy all data centers and fire the professor teaching the AI course. That's a conflict of interest anyway, what kind of unethical circus is Berklee running over there?

Berklee college of music used to be my dream school, the fact that you have AI courses have made me lose any and all interest, respect, and credibility in Berklee

A class should be about learning skills, not avoiding them and bypassing the learning curve to get the immediate results.

Generative AI has no space in artistry, it makes no sense for any school to be teaching their MUSIC students to NOT LEARN music.

lets keep "getting bored" and "loosing our time" learning music, as accelerationists said, music is for and by humans, no clankers

Generative AI goes against the human aspects of creating and performing music, and the process of learning and engrossing yourself in the art. Generative AI is not creative, it's simply a computer model trying to replicate something that is similar to a prompt by using a extremely vast and unregulated data pool. That is not music.
