No Gateway Shelter at Lovelace Gibson

Our neighborhood is filled with families who walk day and evening with their children. I don’t want the reason we moved to this neighborhood to be ruined.

While I agree we need the facility, the one proposed is too large. 100 maximum would be a good size.

I am opposed to the location and scale of the proposed Gateway Center. We moved to Siesta Hills over 20 years ago because it was a quiet and safe neighborhood. If the current proposal is passed by the City Council, not only will our sense of safety and security be threatened, but our property value will decline. The current proposal is UNFAIR to residential property owners! There is a sense that Mayor Keller and the current City Council have abandoned this part of Albuquerque and they have concretely demonstrated that they are willing to dump anything undesirable in Southeast Albuquerque. That will be remembered at election time.

I am opposed to the location and scale of the proposed Gateway Center at the Gibson Medical Center. The current proposal will introduce some (not all) transient predators, contagious disease carriers, and/or mentally ill persons into the surrounding neighborhoods, including Siesta Hills. The safety and security concerns are well-founded and the property values of homeowners are threatened by the current proposal. PLEASE RECONSIDER!

I have completed and signed many surveys and petitions on this. I am 33 year resident of the Parkland Hills NA, Ridgecrest Area. I am working to see that the City set enforceable parameters on this already purchased Lovelace Hospital - soon to be the Citys Gateway Center for the Homeless. Join us.

I have had my house broken into at least four times, my car stolen and broken into a dozen and I have found patients from the nearby psych hospital and homeless people on my porch on different occasions. This will make the problem worse. I have seen needles and pipes in the park. And I’m worried about property values.

We all want the homeless to have a safe and warm place to stay, but next to the base and right next to a hospital seems unsafe for the Air Force base and for the public that live and shop around that area.

Decrease property values,crime.

How do you sign not to have it happen it's already bringing a bunch of mess to our community

Crime is on the rise in our neighborhood. And, it's already pretty bad! Inviting more homeless into the mix is only asking for trouble. I don't know what the resolution is but pushing more and more facilities in our neighborhood is only making our neighborhood worse. We are already surrounded by multiple facilities and the crime and homeless population is super bad. And, the lack of police presence is glaring.

40+ year area resident. We have Tiny Homes, numerous Indian Health Agencies and behavioral health. Time for another area to set up

We do not need more problems in this neighborhood this neighborhood used to be a good neighborhood until they started putting all these things in drug Rehabs they keep adding We pay our taxes just like everybody else they don’t want it in their neighborhood why do we want it in ours

This neighborhood doesn’t need more homeless. Put it in the rich neighborhoods see how they like it.

NIMBY-ism! That is all you people are saying. I don’t think a large-scale homeless service is beneficial for anyone. -Guy on the KRQE video Hmm well to that guy, except homeless people, probably really beneficial for them. Where is the empathy at people?

As a hospital case manager I have first hand experience with the homeless epidemic in Albuquerque. Albuquerque desperately needs a good solution for our homeless population. The main problem I see concerning a homeless shelter at the Gibson location is lack of transportation to and from the area. Members of the homeless population tend to require hospital services at a high rate. The Gibson location is too far from any hospital. A large homeless shelter should be located close to the hospitals where acute medical services are available. I also have concerns that a large homeless shelter will cause congregation and encouragement of drug use and property and violent crimes in the area.

Do not want homeless shelter in my neighborhood. It will turn Gibson into a 2nd street scenario & unsafe for local children.

My husband has been taken there, he doesn’t have COVID-19, I don’t agree that the Mayor will hold the homeless there! I will see an attorney if something happens to my husband!!!

I live near Gibson. And, the number of homeless filtering into our neighborhoods and parks in this area are already more than seen in most residential areas in our city! This will add to crimes, such as theft, property damage, loitering-to name a few. The parks were just recently cleaned of all the hypodermic needles. I work at the VA. The homeless veterans choose not to utilize the numerous programs the government provides them. Offering a shelter next to the VA will only encourage abuse of the programs in place.

This is a bad location. How will this effect the other small hospitals already in the facility.

Not the answer. Need to start with jobs. Our taxes already are paying for programs not being utilized by the intended recipients.
