This is a petition to oppose the building of a funeral home on the Belton-Honea Path Highway. The proposed site is directly in the path of the many faculty, students, and parents who travel to and from the High School. A funeral procession would be a deadly issue, and funerals are known to occur during the most peaked traffic time in the afternoons. If you already have a student who attends the high school or one day will, this is a real concern for you. Emissions of pollutions and toxins from a crematory would harm the air quality in the community and could pose hazards to brain development in children, and soil production in the area. Potential leaks of septic systems of embalming fluids and dead bodily wastes could get into the water system of those in the community as no commercial sewer system exists in this area.
