No Flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Should Fly at the City of Ottawa

Canada was part of the Ally of the Free World that helped fight for the freedom and independence of South Vietnam during Vietnam War 1960 - 1975 against the bullying, attacks and invasion of North Vietnam Communist and its vast supports of communist world behind, including Soviet, China, Cuba, North Korea and Eastern Europe. The current flag of Vietnamese Communist regime today was the one used during Vietnam War by the dictatorial, authoritarian, totalitarian and tyrannical regime that oppresses, harasses, suppresses and violates freedom and basic human rights of ordinary Vietnamese people and that Canadian and Ally fought against during the said period. There is no reason that City of Ottawa goes against the wills and spirits of its previous Canadian generations and what they stood for in defending freedom and human rights for people of South Vietnam by honoring the Vietnam flag. Recognizing and flying the flag that symbolizes such the freedom quenching and oppression and human rights violation mean accepting the Vietnam Communist regime and Ok with its freedom and human rights violations, which the free nations around the World, including Canadian, condemn, and flying the Third Reich's Nazi flag at the nose of Jewish people, especially those who survived the Holocaust.

The best weapon is to vote him and those councillors who made that decision down in the coming election.

I am a Canadian youth, born and raised by Vietnamese parents who fled their home country in search of freedom. The acts committed by the Communist Party of Vietnam in the past and in recent years deserves no recognition. As a resident of Ottawa, I do not want to see the flag of the party that tore apart and continues to tear apart my family's home country be flown in my home town.

Why do'nt you fly the Russian flag to celebrate the independance of Crimea . For the same reason you should not fly the SRVN on the 2nd of September because the SRVN is the result of the invasion of the RVN (South VN) by the DRVN (North VN) in patent violation of the Paris Accord signed and guaranteed by CANADA.

It will be a sad day for Vietnamese-Canadian in Ottawa. The majority of us are boat people who fled the communist regime for freedom and justice. I sincerely hope Mayor Jim Watson try to understand what really represent the Vietnamese-Canadian citizens in Ottawa: Freedom Flag of Vietnam.

Until human rights are fully respected in Vietnam, the Vietnamese red flag will continue to represent the communist regime's utter contempt for democratic values that are dear to Canadians. As to "celebrating Vietnam's independence", communist Vietnam's sad and undeniable record of subservience to communist China since the 1950s should perhaps give pause for thought.

Democracy is a luxury item for some people. Everyday people around the world are fighting and dying for this called democracy which we are very fortunate living in. Socialist Republic of Vietnam doesn’t believe in democracy, freedom and human rights. Flying the flag of Socialist Republic of Vietnam at City Hall of Ottawa is against everything that we had fought for and believed in. Democracy comes with a price so don’t take it for granted.

This SRVN's flag brings back to us the horrible emotions and terrible nightmares of the past. We don’t want our children confused by that bloodstained flag. It represents a dictatorship, not the civilized society, no freedom and no human rights.
