At the least students with %85 in a course should have the option of writing the exam...

i understand that some people are saying that if a student needs an exam to pass that should be optional as well,, instead they should just have some extra credit work for those people

In my personal opinion, I think this is a very graphic topic that would lead to great decision making because exams affect 30% of your grade and I speak out of personal experiences when I say I was passing a class with a high 80's average when I then later failed my exam. My class average dropped drastically which only caused stressed and a overwhelming state of mind. But if you pass an exam, your note doesnt always seem to have much of a raise. In my opinion and from my point of view, we shouldn't have to re-write everything we've learnt in a whole semester for a test that will pretty much determine your final grade for that certain class. I mean, I get that teachers need to re-cap a lesson or a module, but isn't that what tests are for?

Exams are a naturally accepted part of school, but having only SOME high school students write them is taking this academic sacrilege to another level.

I think that if exams are cancelled for that many of students they should be cancelled for all to make it fair and so their averages are not affected in any way shape or form

I agree slightly with the premise. Although I do understand that we should not have to write exams which have the potential to screw us over on some occasions, it does not make sense why students who've had a few weeks off are exempt from their finals. It should be within the students' moral capacity to learn the material they were expected to learn (especially if they're in grade 12, they should be independent to do it on their own!), in case they might HAVE to write their exam.

you can't give students exams because some students learn differently then other which means that some people will excel in the unit and others will fail because there is only one learning style that they have in high school
