No Eirgrid Pylons - Gridwest Project
Eirgrid promised ‘hell of a fight’ over pylon plans!
With a total disregard for people's health, property value, livelihoods, tourism and visual impacts across the two counties of Mayo & Roscommon (Ireland)
There is more and more evidence that the 'by product' of high voltage transmissionelectromagnetic field (EMF) causes a wide spectrum of side effects
IARC Possible class 2b carcinogen
SCHIENER 2014 The new epidemiological studies are consistent with earlier findings of an increased risk of childhood leukemia with long-term average exposure to magnetic fields above 0.3 to 0.4 μT.
2005 Draper Report, Oxford University:
Living within 200 meters of high power lines increases a child’s chance of getting leukemia by 69%; living within 600 meters increases a child’s chance of getting leukemia by an average of 20%.
EirGrid proposes to put the lines as close as fifty metres from people’s homes.
There is no insurance available against ill health effects associated with overhead power line emissions (EMF/Radiation)
Property Devaluation
Over 60 international studies in the last 50 years have proven this fact.
British Study 2007 – value of detached properties at a distance of less than 100m from overhead transmission lines were 38 percent lower than comparable properties. The effect of devaluation has been seen up to 2.5 kilometers from such lines;
Intermediate orSuspension Tower
These support the conductors(wires) on straight sections ofthe line route.
Typical Height: 27 – 43m
Footprint Range: 6.4 x 6.4mto 11 x 11m
Angle/Tension Tower
These are used when the lineroute changes direction.
Typical Height: 24 – 37m
Footprint Range: 7.4 x 7.4mto 12 x 12m
The Reality of the project is:
The destruction of rural Ireland
Unusable land
Worthless farms / Empty Homes
Higher bills - Due to Compensation not being part of budget
Eirgrid has no respect for a full and comprehensive consultation
We can not allow the pylons to proceed. We must question the reasoning, feasibility and the impact on thousand of people.
The picture is of a 3kmstretchof Mayo with actual indicative pylon locations for 10 pylons that would mean over the 130KM length there would be in the region of 350 - 400 pylons across our counties.
