No Data Centers
We, the undersigned residents of San Marcos, Crystal Clear Special Utility District, Hays, Comal, Caldwell and Guadalupe Counties, and the greater area affected by impacts to the San Marcos Springs, Edwards Aquifer, Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer, and Guadalupe and San Marcos River systems, call on our public officials and governing bodies to exercise their authority and discretion to protect our communities, water resources, and planning priorities from the harms of data center development.
We call on these elected officials and governing bodies to uphold their commitment to previously established long-term planning mechanisms, such as the San Marcos Comprehensive Plan, Drought Contingency plans laid out by the Crystal Clear Special Utility District and Guadalupe‑Blanco River Authority, and the Edwards Aquifer Authority’s Critical Period Management plan.
At present, neither federal authorities, the State of Texas, or local elected and appointed officials have adopted comprehensive policies to adequately monitor, regulate, or mitigate the rapid development of large-scale data centers, despite their significant impacts on water resources, land use, utility costs, and community health.
Therefore, at this time, we respectfully request that all relevant public bodies indefinitely:
- Reject all permits, service connections, rezoning requests, and project approvals for data center projects within this region.
- Preserve undeveloped land for future uses that reflect shared community values, long-term planning, and responsible stewardship of local resources.
- Enact and enforce stronger protections to prevent industrial development without meaningful community consent, particularly in residential, conservation, and agricultural areas..
- Ensure full transparency and meaningful community control of future development decisions.
