The town finally backtracked and the plans for the crematorium have been scrapped. I am physically drained by this fight but I am glad we protected our neighborhood. Keep an eye on the local zoning meetings just in case they try to push this through again elsewhere.

SAY NO to having a crematorium in our historic, residential area of Middletown, PA on the premises of Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home at 208 N. Union St.
The proposed crematory site, in an accessory building on the property of Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home at 208 N. Union St., has 29 residential buildings within 250 feet and is in the heart of our historic district. Middletown Management has given the owners of the crematory carte blanche to run the proposed human incinerator 24 hours a day, 7 days a week right in our residential district, and they can use an accessory building to do it. We argue that this is not in the spirit of the ordinances of our town and especially the use of an accessory building. Examples of accessory use in the Middletown Ordinances are swimming pools, greenhouses, and tennis courts. It is quite a leap from those examples to a human incinerator. Please help us stop this and hold the Middletown Management accountable for not doing due diligence regarding our public health, property values, and quality of life.

Reaching this level of support has been an exhausting but necessary reminder that this neighborhood will not be ignored. I am tired of the silence from officials, yet seeing this momentum grow makes it clear that we are not fighting this battle alone.

State & federal regulations are pretty loose, and depend on "self-monitoring" and "self-reporting" by the company that profits from operating the crematory. Fager-Finkenbinder have already shown that they will hide things from their neighbors. Makes it hard to trust them once the crematory is up and running.
Lets not lower the property values and pollute the air more. There are greener solutions for burial. I don't want my kids growing up with this around.
Not opposed to the funeral home by any means. I am just opposed to the crematorium being located in the heart of our downtown which is on the brink of revitalization. This could end that quickly.
I live less than one block from this facility, and am not interested in taking on one or more additional risks for myself or my family
The smell and the pollution we do not need in middletown, this is a residential neighborhood and the cremation should be done on the outskirts of town. We need to have business for the living, to bring people in to the neighborhood.
This is dangerous to everybody!!!!
I am not opposed to the funeral business or cremation, but I do not understand why a crematory should be built in a congested residential neighborhood...... I would think that being good neighbors would be the first objective of any businessman trying to establish himself in a small town......bringing noise, additional traffic, and more pollution,not to mention stress to a residential area probably isn't the best way to generate feelings of trust, respect, and quiet dignity for a business that usually exemplifies these things...it would seem that the entire project is off to a bad start due to a lack of finesse

This decision by the zoning officer was so contrary to the zoning ordinance as to defy belief.
