HELL NO

As a resident of Humboldt County and a science educator for a local high school, I cannot support the purchasing of a rail line to be used for coal transport. Of course there is the obvious argument that coal is disaster out for the environment and is a massive contributor to rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere. However, this is also a dying industry. My hope is for Humboldt county residents to have jobs that are sustainable for the future. The world is turning away from coal, so these jobs will not be permanent. Likewise, since new infrastructure will have to be built, much will be automated… it will save companies money in the long run.

The world, and America, are in a climate emergency. We. Do. Not. Need. Coal. It is a filthy pollutant that defiles our air, water, natural resources. We cannot let greedy coal barons destroy our fragile environment just to enrich their already full bank accounts. Save our environment. NO to coal.

My city of Richmond is suffering from the coal trains passing by us---extremely long trains that we can smell the toxic fume throughout our town. Richmond City Council voted to phase our coal shipments from our port, and soon this will happen. Then our city will breath better and be healthier---but we need to coal trains to stop passing by.

You’ve got to be kidding with this one. This ain’t the town, and we ain’t the people. Also coal is dirty and dead.

We don't to develop coal for us or anybody. We do need to develop renewable resources. Also, I do not want my taxes spent on rebuilding a railroad for the coal industry. Our once very active railroad was abandoned because it was of no further use. Today bike and walking trails serve our community far better.
