There is absolutely no reason we need this coal train and little chance of it being at all successful. There's good reasosn for why the railroad shut down in the first place and we need to keep protecting the wild and scenic river basins of the Eel river.

The railroad representatives, who were seeking permits from a county governing body, said that each coal car will emit 125 lbs. of coal dust per mile. Research revealed that the typical coal train is 123 coal cars.
125 lbs./mi per coal car admittedly doesn't sound like much until you multiply that number by the number of coal cars in a typical coal train and the result by the number of coal trains per year - 125 lbs. of coal dust per mile x 123 coal cars in a typical coal train = 15,375 lbs. or 7.69 tons of coal dust per mile.
The railroad representatives told the county governing body that they anticipated 900+ coal trains per year - 900 coal trains per year x 7.69 tons of coal dust per mile = 6,918.75 tons of coal dust per mile per year.

When will people understand the consequences of coal? When will the conspiracy theraies cease. Why don't people understand that for the greater good, you don't always get what you want, but you generally get what you need.

The North Coast Rail route has long been defunct due to extreme geological hazards and instabilty. The California State Department of Transportation has estimated upwards of $5 billion dollars to repair the rail line to carry freight. Given the history of geological failure along most of the route there is no guarantee of rail stability should the line be fit to carry heavy loads. What a ridiculous idea. Obviously proposed by dinosaurs. If they really think this route wound be viable have them put up a $ 1 Tillion dollar bond first, complete all the neccessary planning and environmental documents, then wait 10 years and do it all over again because site conditions will change.

HELL NO TO COAL!! There is no such thing as clean coal and we need to eliminate its use entirely much less let it be allowed to pollute our landscape and waterways.
