The excess school property is unarguably a unique and valuable asset of the community (voting public). Accordingly, the community as a whole should have the opportunity to have a vote, through public referendum, in determining which public entity will own this property, the express purpose(s) for which it will be developed for the community's maximum benefit, and how the capital expenditure and operating costs will be funded by the community, both near and long term. THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE COMMUNITY, notwithstanding any legal right that the Fire District may have to purchase the property from the School District, and pay for same through the planned non-voted funding source recommended by their legal counsel, without a public vote.
As a separate but related matter, we all want our Fire District to have all of the resources and funding that it needs, both now and in the future. Many of us, including my wife and I, have been unfailingly supportive of the Fire District in their fundraising efforts and other activities. This does not mean however that we should blindly support the purchase of this extensive acreage expressly by the Fire District for as-yet-to-be-specified future public use(s). The Fire District is not our community planning entity; WE ARE!

I believe the school district needs to be fully informed of what the fire departments long range plans are for the property
Since the fire department is a public agency they need to be transparent
This decision to Sell the property needs to be postponed until they publically tell what they are planning & the cost associated with it.

Joanie and I agree with the freinds of rural plains concerns. We support their mission to have an open dialogue and transparent communication with both the school district and LWFD prior to any further land sales and/or development.

Our community needs the Fire District. We do not need a big, industrial complex in our neighborhoods. Put such things out in the woods!
