Unless my information is wrong Zambian Breweries pumps in close to K1,000,000 into the ZMAs which is administered by The National Arts Council (NAC) and The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM).
Of concern is what the Musicians for whom the awards are meant get out of that sponsorship. If say there are 20 categories to be “Awarded” and the award goes with a token of K3,000, it means that only K60,000 (6%) actually goes to the musicians and the rest of it is chewed up by the bureaucracy of the ZMAs. Uku ekulila abantu amasuku pamutwe. The musicians are busy harvesting and before they can even put the baskets on the floor someone has already taken the fruit out of the basket and they walk out with nothing.
If NAC and ZAM feel that they cannot give the musicians better perks can they please do something that will benefit the musicians as a whole. Probably put up a professional recording studio, or a scholarship, so that the intended beneficiaries benefit from the same becauase the reason ZB pumps in that money is in recognition of the musicians input into the the the business of ZB.
Special thanks go to Zambian Breweries for they have recognized the part that musicians play in promoting their lagers. Go to a club with no music and the beer wont sale.
