Thank-you for your comment. Do you know the facts on casinos attracting tourism. Less than 1%. So, have millions leave our community to attract a very small percentage of tourist that will spend their money at the casino, not in the community at a great cost to the city doesn't make mathematical or economic sense. Better to attract tourism with our natural economy, festivals, Science North, beautiful environment that a casino. In addition, addicts will be a result, we don't know how many, but much more than 1%. So, unless you have a conflict of interest, I don't see how the argument that it will attract tourists (1%) could possibly offset the money leaving our economy (60% if not more) and the problem gamblers (4.5% or higher).

Were you aware that the casino gives a certain percentage of their income to the city every year? So it actually does help our city, it brings in millions of dollars! There will always be problems everywhere. You can never heal ALL addiction gamblers just like you will never heal all alcoholics and drug addicts!

I am sadly not surprised that the City is considering this awful 'fast-money' option.
So, are we willing to sacrifice the downtown school of architecture and our growing reputation as a centre for further education and research for ... a casino?
Sudbury is already a hub for myriad social services as it is: do we want to add to the need and waiting lists for these services for the sake of money?
How about making a serious, sustained long-term effort to attract smart cultural investment instead, with the goal of retaining the further-educated young professionals to stay in the north.
How about increasing the pressure at the provincial and then federal levels for a bigger percentage of mining revenue? A long-shot you say, but who wants a defeatist at the helm anyway?
The defeatist justifies the casino. The short-sighted justify the casino. The immoral justify the casino.
No casino in Sudbury. Aspire to be better. Aspire to greatness.
Do not justify your support of the casino by comparing yourself to the mediocre who have sold out - set your sights higher. Isn't that what we tell our children about goal setting?

The current casino in our city is currently sucking up all of our citizen money it can. Speak to the patrons and some of there staff the will tell you the same. This is the year we need change in this city councillors that will listen to the people in Sudbury. This petition in great numbers is telling our Mayor and councillors to reconsider the expansion and the impact on the community and its citizens. It's our chance to speak in October.... VOTE for someone the will listen.

Gone to the Casino today I feel I was robed lost 400$ in 30 min. Playing computerized blackjack it gave me no chance to win told one staff to stand there and watch me play and how corrupt the game was he said "its gambling" You will never see me there again people don't be stupid and supports this place unless you have the money to give away because don't expect to win. This place can make all the money it whats its all computerized. This place will not support itself when people realize the corruption.
