Aloha We do not want to see fares required to ride the Hele-on.

The Hele-on bus is a vital service for many people with no other options and enables mobility for people who have no other choices. To charge a fee to these riders is to try to make money off of a disadvantaged and already struggling segment of our society. There also does not seem to have been enough planning on how these fees would be collected, spent and even the way transfers and other aspects of bus riding would change if there were to be a fee.

Some aspects of bus riding that are tolerated currently: chronic schedule inconsistencies, no clear bus stops to make getting on the bus user friendly, over-crowding on certain buses, inefficient routes that make it take an unnecessarily long time to get from point A to point B, almost no posted schedules and more, would be unacceptable if the riders were paying a fare.

This petition is to show support for the continued FREE Hele-on bus service on Hawaii Island.
