The committment and energy that kids put into their off campus sports is equal to and/or greater than those that are on campus and they should not be penalized.

Many sports are not offered through the school district. Students have been receiving PE credit for years for various activities outside of school, including dance and other sports. These students spend countless hours in their sport of choice. To now require these students to take a PE class on top of sailing, crew an outrigger would adversely affect the students. The extra hour at school will, inevitably, cut into the time they have each evening to study and prepare for the next day. If you don't feel these sports are worthy of a PE credit, try rowing for a while and see if it sport or not.

This is ridiculous! This sport should allow the Juniors and Seniors even greater credit as their P.E. Please do not allow this new rule to take place!

I am shocked by this news!! Not only has the NAC provided a sport that my son loves, but has given him the opportunity to discover a "passion" he never knew he had. His weekends are now filled with races in other cities, giving a teenage boy a HEALTHY way to spend his time. He has flourished after starting paddling last year and cannot imagine not earning his PE credits from the NAC. Please do not take this wonderful program away that only assists our kids to be preoductive and healthy, while doing a sport they love, and maintaining friendships as well. The NAC is a valuable asset and these kids deserve stimulation, NOT an empty stare in period 1 where an iPhone becomes the only stimulation for them. This is heartbreaking.

Our amazing independent pe programs are so valuable to our students and our schools. I have had a 3 year rower at NAC and now have a 2nd year paddler at NAC. NAC is so much more than just a pe credit. What our kids learn is invaluable lessons in team work, sportsmanship, nature/ environment etc. They accumulate dozens and dozens of more hours than any on campus class. The dedication to their sport is an amazing thing. I believe Independent PE credits should be available all 4 years. I cannon imagine why you would block these great sports. Nearly all these athletes are college bound and have outstanding grades.

Often these athletes are consistently some of the top ranked students at CDM as they care just as much about their grades as they do their sport. Time spent in a 6th period keeps them from getting to practice on time and rested. We do not want to have burnt out, stressed out and maxed out teens!

Agreed! These are among the most highly recruited athletes in the district. I'd like a little transparency and a better explanation as to why this decision has been made. Rumor has it that freshman and sophomores will not be allowed IPE either, so it will effect all four grades and these fabulous programs.
