As Chattanooga grows in population, quality of life will continue to decrease unless city ordinances start being enforced.

There are too many noisy cars and especially motorcycles that come down Birmingham Dr. lately. One crotch rocket in particular flies down the road doing at least 50+ every morning and afternoon. I hate the noise and I worry about everyone's safety.

You cannot believe the noise that comes up to Laird from Hixson Pike . So bad sometimes my dog begins to bark thinking it's just outside.

Hi Neighbors, I rec’d a reply on 9/25/19 from Lt. Heather Williams (City Council member Jerry Mitchell and other city gov’t officials were cc’d).
In brief, Lt. Williams reported on a recent 2 hr. monitoring of several Hixson Pike locations. An officer monitored speed and dB(A) [decibel]levels.
Results of monitoring indicate that NONE of the vehicles (cars, motorcycles and sports bikes, & various sizes of trucks) exceeded the current City Code dB(A) limits.
One example:
3 sportbikes registered 70, 75, 80 dB(A).
The City Code dB(A) limit for motorcycles & motor driven cycles is 82 in a 35 or less MPH zone & 86 in a 35+ zone.
My reply:
As the current City Code decibel levels are demonstrably set too low to capture the current decibel levels we are hearing, how do we (citizens and city gov’t officials) go about getting the city code decibel levels changed?

Last week I received an email from our CHA Police n’hood contact officer, Lt. Heather Williams City Council member Jerry Mitchell and other city officials are cc’d), with the latest police patrol info re decibel levels. I’m in the process of replying to the email today. I’ll share Lt. Williams’ email and my reply by tomorrow.

Turns out the current City Code caps decibel levels well above the decibel levels we endure every day. I recently received info about police monitoring of decibel levels. So it looks like next step is to lobby our City Council for revised City Code ordinance! Please check Next Door website and this petition site for more info later this week.

My children cover their ears during our walk to school each morning as some vehicles pass by, one in particular that we encounter each day is ridiculously loud. This petition is a great idea, and we can hope the powers-that-be will listen.

There are so many loud motorcycles and cars. There ought to be a muffler that could be required to keep their loud noises down.

Cars and motorcycles with excessively loud engines drive at unsafe speeds up and down Hixson Pike where it meets Barton Avenue, and they do it late into the night. This is a disturbance to all who live here and the police should enforce noise ordinances.
