can't have the movie without original creators overseeing the story and production. George Lucas oversaw the last few star wars. Doesn't mean they were great, but you just gotta have the final approval from the original creators and story tellers.

The best versions of the Ninja Turtles over the years have combined the seriousness of the original 1984 comic book series with the humor from the cartoons. (Ex. 1990 movie, 2012 Nickelodeon cartoon) Kevin has done a great job with this in the IDW comic book series. Making it too much like the silly original 87 (toy commercial) cartoon will alienate one group of fans. It should combine humor and seriousness the way Marvel does and I think Kevin will be a great help with that.
