Nick Lowe BELONGS in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!
Nick Lowe: Is he the guy who sang "Cruel to be kind"? Yes, but that doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of all he has contributed to Rock and Roll. Nicholas Drain Lowe released his first solo album “Jesus of Cool” back in 1978, the year that I was born, and has not slowed down since. He has since released an additional 15 albums, featuring some of the most prolific songwriting in the last 40 years and has moved effortlessly between genres, from country and blues, to R&B and Soul. He has produced albums for the likes of Elvis Costello, himself a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Carlene Carter, Johnny Cash, the Pretenders, Dave Edmunds, among others and his songs have been performed and covered by a host of artistes over the years.
I was first introduced to Nick Lowe’s songs by my husband Robert, after moving to the United States from Grenada in 1999. His 2001 release “The Convincer” really struck a chord with me and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Fast Forward to 2019, Nick Lowe is better than ever. At age 70 he continues to release new music putting out 2 Eps “Tokyo Bay” and the upcoming “Starvation/Trombone” due for release on May 17th. He, along with the Rock and Roll band Los Straitjackets, are currently on an extensive tour of the US and will head over to Britain later this month.
After seeing his show on April 6th 2019 at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, North Carolina, I can attest to the fact that Nick Lowe continues to reinvent himself, not resting on his past successes but charting a new course and bringing new fans along for the awe-inspiring ride. In 1999, at age 21, I became a massive fan of Nick Lowe's music and now at age 40, after seeing him live in concert for the very first time, I am totally in awe of Nick Lowe's musical genius and his overall coolness. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should be all in for his inclusion amongst Rock and Roll's greatest!!!
