Even if we had the $90,000 without any cuts, I would opt for even more teachers rather than delay school by 30-45 minutes. Our class sizes are too large, and kids are not getting the attention they deserve.

I support a later start to the school day, but is the prospect of starting classes a little later each morning so appealing that we would compromise the excellent academic and extracurricular options we offer our students? I think not.

I see that half of my courses are included in the list of proposed cuts. Please understand that half of my course load equals all of my course load - I can't afford to work half time, and will likely leave the district to find work somewhere else. Please try to think past the mere mathematics of the cuts, and reflect on the actual consequences of the cuts on teacher's lives, and resulting consequences on the life of the school.

I want a late start, but NOT if it means a cut to the NHS budget. We are already stretched thin in many ways. Find the money somewhere else. Also, I have many students who work afterschool every day. They often get off at 9pm. The late start change for them may only mean that they work later, go to bed later and wake up later; NOT that they get more sleep.

As an educator who would be greatly impacted by these cuts, I urge the school committee to refrain from supporting an initiative that would deprive our students of the robust curriculum NHS offers.
