The NHS is under-funded and overstretched. The government has cut funding by over 40%, a cut of £4.6 billion in local authority social care and a £200 million cut in local authority health budgets. This petition has been created to increase funding, train more doctors and improve the working lives of NHS staff.

Because of cuts, a decision by the Department of Health to stop printing physical copies of Reduce the Risk, a leaflet advising parents about how to avoid cot death. Since it was first published in 1991 it has saved the lives of around 19,000 babies. Francine Bates, chief executive of the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths says "It has contributed to a 70% drop in unexpected infant deaths in the last 20 years".

As funding gets tighter the NHS has to deal with an increase for service, a 4% increase in medical treatments and the cost of running the NHS as a market which costs £4.5 billion p.a.

This petition is to increase funding, train more doctors and improve the working lives of NHS staff.
