Northern Greenbrier Youth Soccer League (NGYSL) in Greenbrier County, WV made changes to the bylaws that are not consistent with the rules of West Virginia Soccer Association for recreational leagues. WVSA states in section 10.3.16 (A), "the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting, or any similar process to roster players to any team on the basis of talent or ability is prohibited." Additionally, section 10.3.16 (C), "a system of rostering players is used to establish a fair or balanced distribution of playing talent among all teams participating..." NGYSL Article VI Rosters states players can be placed by player request including "request for specific coach." This in combination with transportation request allows for some coaches and parents to finagle a team that they desire. The board also rostered players based on a state sanctioned tournament and not on the overall recreational goal of balanced teams. In conclusion, the signees of this petition want the rule changed to balance all league teams. We feel the rule should only allow for designation for the coaches children, sibling request, and an occasional transportation request (max one per child.) Head coaches are placed and then assistant coaches should be placed on teams to balance them even further.
