I just finished reviewing the recommendations from your expert consultants on co-locating with fire vs with the city. Wow, who would not vote for that, cheaper, better location, combining services that are similar, etc. etc. I watched with interest when almost none of you even had a question for the consultant. I had lots of them.
It is clear that traffic is a big concern particularly with regard to access to 305. Additionally, there are/were considerable cost savings to co-locating. The consultant added that they almost "never" see a court attached to a police station in such a small community.
When citizens vote against what your City Manager wants, then it is time to move on. The Council is supposed to represent what citizens want you to do.
While I was on the Council, the most important thing was to represent the citizens. That is what I was elected to do and so are you. You are not elected to rubber stamp what the City Manager wants. He has and continues to fail us in so many ways.
You are the City Manager's boss, not the other way around. Changing the form of government was meant to put the Council, who first and foremost represent citizens, in charge of what happens.
Most of you have been fed a false impression of your job which is that you should do what the CM and staff want you to do as he/she is the "expert". Not true, they advise you but you decide how our taxpayer dollars are spent.
Citizens have overwhelmingly said, we don't want it there and we don't want to pay this hugely inflated price, over twice as much as co-locating with fire. We do not need to have a Court co-located either as it is fine where it is. Finally, and the cherry on the cake, we don't want the City to be responsible for cleaning up any contamination that the City is not responsible for.
Simply put, move on to getting a new desperately needed facility in a different place that will cost considerably less. I would guess that Fire h

The people have spoken-loud and clear! Rescind the June vote authorizing purchase; reconsider other proposed sites; RESPOND to the will of the majority of citizens of Bainbridge Island.

If you don't want to listen to 75% of the voters, you need to resign, before 50% plus one decide to really get your attention.

COBI's primary task at this point should be to have a site plan draw up for a police station to be built on the east side of the current police.
Then run that proposal by the public.
Tally up the cost and put the bond on the ballot.

The lot north of City Hall is still the wrong place and wrong price. Time for a Plan B.

Bainbridge citizens have voted and said no! 75.5% against needs to be listened to by the city manager and city council. Find a different location!

I totally agree with the wording of this petition and am stunned by the lack of recognition that the location and the price tag are what this vote is about. Winslow is where 50% of all residential growth on our island is to take place. The site just north of city hall should be either residential, commercial or both. That's what supports Winslow core.
