Petition to Build a New Police Station: New Price, New Location

I voted "NO" on Prop 1 because I believe that the police and fire depts. should be located closer to 305 and the cost was excessive.

Please listen to the voters - the combined facility with city hall does not make sense.

I support the Fire Station location and Common Sense.

Please follow your constituents decision to not move forward on the purchase for police station.

Developed a new plan.

BI City Council: please use common sense to move away from property north of City Hall. There are other efficient, cost effective solutions to be found. Please stop wasting precious tax-payer dollars.

Ditto for the comments already submitted. Using the Suzuki property already owned certainly sounds logical.

Note to COBI: it's the location & $$, not the contamination (although that is an issue for the owner). Read our lips: no new police building there! 75% of your constituency voted against this boondoggle; please respect our voice.

Yes, I don't want to see money wasted and police waiting in traffic.

The people of Bainbridge Island have spoken clearly. The City-owned Suzuki property at the southeast corner of NE New Brooklyn and Sportsman Club had been purchased in 2000 with a new police facility in mind. It is centrally located and easily accessible to all parts of B.I. We already own this property, it isn't contaminated, it is in an uncongested area close to Winslow, and this use would be much better use than cramming it with the impervious cover of more housing units and streets.

The vote was clear. If City Council members and City Management don't want to represent their Constituents, please resign.

I believe the citizens of Bainbridge Island deserve a transparent and sensible approach to this issue. Surely the police need a new facility. A year ago a consultant recommended combining with the fire department location on Madison near 305, an ideal location for both departments. The City turned that down for unknown reasons. Time to revisit, work something out with the 2 departments - and save the taxpayers millions of dollars! This should be seriously addressed.

Listening to the citizens who live here should be the first step in moving on to a better solution.

It's offensive to ALL voters when such a loud "NO!" is ignored by the City!

When I see a legislative body refuse to listen to and abide by such a huge landslide vote from their constituents, I am left to wonder who it is they ARE listening to? This is not a constitutional issue where the State Supreme Court has ruled and you must abide. This is a choice to be made between alternatives. Our council is ignoring our very clearly declared wishes. Why? Who stands to gain from proceeding with the city manager's preference?

Please, give up on the 'Clean Center' site for the new police headquarters. I hear the City manager received a pay raise. Is this a reward for going ahead with a plan that has been voted down? I do hope that at least on this island our votes COUNT!

This council is failing us in so many ways, and this is a prime example.
