This petition seeks to voice those individuals of New York City or of the greater metropolitan area that are angry and concerned about the proposed price increase or abolishment of the monthly subway unlimited pass. Already expensive, with a price increase of nearly 65% since its debut, a further price increase truly threatens the well being of those individuals that need it. With a down economy, lack of salary increases, and high unemployment a price increase or abolition of the unlimited pass holds the capacity to create mass paralyzation of the New York City community as well as stunt further development. What is supposed to make this city so great is our ability to travel it freely. The MTA is supposed to be here to help New York City, not burden it. If these trends continue, New York City risks losing its stature as the central hub for the creative, intellectual, and progressive minded people of the world. Please sign this petition if you believe that a price increase or abolishment is unfair and unwarranted and that MTA should further conduct research to find an alternate means of saving money.
I have been reading through the stories you are leaving about how much your daily commute costs already. It is clear that the MTA is losing sight of the people who keep this city running every single day.
July 29, 2010
Seeing this grow makes me feel like I am finally hearing the frustration of my neighbors echoed back at me. This momentum shows that the MTA cannot simply ignore the people who keep our city moving.

Already paying enough to ride a train that breaks down every other day. Stop jacking up the prices on us just to cover your own bad math.
