NEWTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL 8TH GRADE SHOULD NOT BE HOUSED AT NEWTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

Educationally, I do not believe this is in the best interests of the students. Eighth graders are going through a lot, developmentally as well as emotionally. There is not much research on this as it has not been done in many districts. However, it was implemented in a district trying to save money and was proven to not be beneficial for the eight graders. http://thewellingtonenterprise.com/news/2169/superintendent-dennis-mock-the-eighth-grade-is-out-of-place-in-that-building

I don't believe 8th grade students should go to the high school with the grades 9-12. I also don't believe we should be closing a school if there will not be enough space in just eight years.

This is a horrible idea! Bad for kids developmentally, emotionally, etc. and bad for home values etc.

I don't think it's in the best interest of the students to put 8th graders at the high school or 7th graders at Reed. Please keep NMS open.

Just shocked that this has been determined to be the only option for our town.

Moving 8th grade to the high school is a very poor idea. I have two in 7th and one in 2nd. I do not want them to be crammed into the high school. I do not think 8th graders are mature enough to be at the height school. It would also not save us any money and likely cost us money in a few years!

As a mom of 3 small girls hat moved to Newtown because of the reputation of the schools, this would be a horrible decision. I couldn't imagine having my daughters be with high school age children that are not their peers

8th graders are too young to be in school with high schoolers. I have a freshaman who I spoke to about this and even he says the same thing. Bad idea for sure!

my son is a Newtown 5 th grader, not only would logistics be difficult, But NMS staff has gone through insane administrative changes since 12/14 and to turn around and make them readjust to what it would take to work at the high school is crazy. It would have great negative impact on the kids. TOTALLY AGAINST IT

It would be completely inappropriate to move the 8th graders to the high school. It is not in the best interest of the students and their development. It should not be considered as an option.

8th graders are not emotionally equipped or ready for high school. Logistics and conveniences of the town and tax payers should not come before the well being of our children. For the life of me I can't understand why it hasn't been seriously considered to have the schools set up k-5, 6-8 and 9-12 the way I went to school and makes the most sense from a child development standpoint. I am strongly opposed to 8th graders being forced to matriculate with kids far older in maturity.

I am against putting 8th grade at the High School. I don't believe it is developmentally appropriate.

Moving the 8th grade into NHS is the worst idea I've read yet. Isn't anyone thinking of the developmental disaster this will be causing for the 12 & 13 year old children. They are already exposed to poor choices by the 9th-12th graders on the school bus - oral sex, inappropriate touching and drug sales in addition to the trash language so now we're saving a few dollars per tax payer and allowing the access for 8 hours per day. I'm very thankful my son will be in 9th grade next year and not subject to this poor idea.
