New START Now
Dear Senator,
We believe it is self evident that national security is an important,
non-partisan issue and therefore we respectfully request your support
for NEW START, now. Prompt ratification during the current 111th
Congress is needed to send a strong signal that America is serious about
global, nuclear security.
After months of expert testimony, and endorsements ranging from Henry
Kissinger to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the time to act is now.
In brief, NEW START supports modest reductions to surplus nuclear
weapons, it leaves room for missile defense, it enhances cooperation and
transparency with Russia and it provides verification protocols so we
know if nuclear weapons are unaccounted for. Finally, and perhaps most
importantly, in a world where countries such as North Korea and Iran are
actively pursuing nuclear armament, American support for global
non-proliferation is critical to fostering global security.
So why wait?
Government does not stop Nov. 4th of an election year. Part of the
Congressional cycle is to govern before an incoming Congress. There will
be many important issues to work on during the next session, and
re-educating the incoming Senate on this issue will not only cost
taxpayer dollars through many more months of redundant testimony, but
may also compromise our relations with Russia and threaten our national
security.
Your support for NEW START is absolutely critical. Arms reduction
and verification must not be relegated to the back burner of the next
Congress, it is too important.
NEW START needs your support today.
Sincerely,
Sponsor
