They should but they won't as greedy companies know that ignorant readers' attentions won't be grabbed by retractions and actual facts.

It's about time newspapers had some real consequences to deal with when they print lies. There's clearly not enough incentive to maintain journalistic integrity at the moment.

Newspapers making up wild stories and pathetic retractions stuck away buried in the middle where no one sees , just wrong ! They ruin people's lives

Newspapers need to start reporting responsibly and face harsh penalties for printing lies and propaganda. Use your influence for good and to make the world a better place, not to create divide and spread hate.

Always find it annoying when apologies and retractions are a small paragraph somewhere in the paper, after the big headlines and the damage is done.

Newspapers should always be allowed to investigate without fear or favour, but when they get it wrong, the space given to the apology should match the space given to the allegation and give right of reply to the accuser.

This would be a significant step to encourage responsible journalism.

The sad truth is that many hundreds of thousands of people will read the lies these types of newspapers pedal on their front pages but very few will notice the retractions. Front page lie? Front page apology.

Retractions should equal the original statement if it's knowingly false...
