The Need for Four Way Stop at Arlington St. and Silver Beach Ave. Intersection The busy intersection at Arlington Street and Silver Beach Avenue necessitates a four-way Stop sign. The current stop sign on Arlington Street is not adequate for this dangerous intersection for bikers, pedestrians and drivers. The high volume of summer residents on foot, on bikes and in cars presents a dangerous situation. Drivers coming up Silver Beach Avenue and Arlington Street cannot see each other and currently, only Arlington Avenue has a Stop sign. As a result, there are frequent near-misses and occasional collisions. Thankfully, and incredibly, there have been no serious injuries. This intersection connects numerous sections of New Silver Beach and generates a lot of traffic for residents and visitors of New Silver Beach. Vacationers and people not familiar with the intersection travel swiftly down Silver Beach Avenue, unaware of the potential danger and limited visibility. There is currently a Stop sign along Arlington Street, however, it is extremely difficult to see any activity from Beatrice Street and Arlington Street onto Silver Beach Avenue, especially when the bushes and trees are in bloom. Both Arlington Street and Silver Beach Avenue are fairly narrow, and traffic from both directions often has to contend with pedestrians, bikers, strollers, and other vehicles. We believe additional stop signs on Silver Beach Avenue are necessary. This would make all vehicles stop and check for traffic. It would not unduly hinder traffic coming from Silver Beach Avenue, or Arlington Road. It would require all traffic to slow down, and stop in an area that is thickly settled, where pedestrians abound, and limited visibility is problematic. This petition will be presented to the town on April 13th. Please sign and pass along to other residents of New Silver. If any of you would like to write a letter sharing your thoughts, please feel free to do so. These will be presented to the town as well. They can be mailed to Allison Garvey Hutchins 28 Vinton Street #3 South Boston MA 02127
