From the day I moved here 12 years ago, I have never understood how the elementary schools could have different calendars from the JHS and HS.

Next year we will have two at Newhall and one at Hart. It would benefit all families and our community to be on the same calendar.

The Newhall calendar is ridiculous. We are friends with kids all over the valley and it is totally frustrating to miss out on family time, sports practices, and summer camps because of our calendar. Shorten Spring Break to 1 week, shorten Thanksgiving break to 3 days, and add in a short Fall Break along with getting out of school with everyone else. Our family summer is now shortened to only 7 weeks because of the unalignment between Newhall and Hart. This is intentionally harming family time.

I taught in Poway, a highly effective 35,500 student school district with a national reputation for excellence, and a k-12 district with a coordinated calendar....*somehow* they manage to meet the needs of all their HS, MS and ES with one calendar. Newhall's declaration that their needs require a different calendar than Hart holds absolutely no water.

I have asked about this issue only after we had kids attending Hart and Newhall classes. I recieved the same response then as well. I am on board with this and lets try to get summer back to 3 months not 8 weeks.. i look forward to seeing this through and we wll support you Ryan!!!! Newhall, lets get this done..

NSD please align your schedule. You have ignored this community problem for years, which creates a huge burden for families. Your schedule decreases quality family time. We will remember this once it's time to vote for new board members. Our voices will be heard!

Newhall isn't arrogant. If they change the schedule it is to accommodate the majority. It will not be "bowing" to Hart. The Hart and Newhall districts work together.

Teachers do not get to vote on the calendar. Teachers are part of the community in a big way. "The most desirable package?" What teachers are you talking about? I am a teacher, and I would like to have the calendars aligned. You should reconsider your comment.

The districts do not decide how many absences your child can have, the state does.

My sister is a high school teacher and never has the same schedule as her daughter in 4th grade. It's a burden to her too.

I agree NSD should change it's calender. Famlies can not go on vacation and can't spend time togeather. Calender does not make sense. It's not hard to change.

My son is in college and we were trying to get it changed when he was in elementary! It doesn't help to go to the district meetings. The district puts the schedule they want, on the most desirable package for the teachers, so that it will get voted in. I hope the people who pay the salaries, the community, finally can get their voice heard.

Our 3 children have been enrolled in school in 3 other states and I've never encountered this situation before. It makes no sense that the calendars are not aligned! It's impossible for families to manage!

I would like NSD elementary schools to have the same school calendar year as other districts and not their own way of scheduling school days.

Please change the Newhall School District calendar to match the high school calendar.
