Appropriate growth at Port Canaveral positively impacts the area financially. We appreciate the efforts of the Commissioners to stimulate the local economy and improve the quality of life through the creation of "Downtown Port Canaveral". We realize that growth of the commercial shipping, coupled with the preservation of the commercial and sport fishing community, is also important to the area both socially and financially. Although, on a micro-economic/social scale, change can be both positive and negative depending on who is impacted. The addition of the proposed new cruise terminal will do several things. It will move the Freddie Patrick Boat Ramps to an area near Jetty Park and have a separate entrance as to not incur a fee for usage and minimize potential noise from impacting the camp grounds. South Cargo Pier 5 will be replaced with the new Cruise Terminal, although, with the addition of North Cargo Piers 5 and 6 we realize there is a net increase in cargo dock space. From a community perspective we support the above proposed placement of the new cruise terminal and that it is a net positive for the community in general.
