I have lived in Winchester for 2 years and really noticed the lack of leisure facilities when I first moved, compared to my hometown. Private gyms aplenty, but community centres bring everyone together - a worthwhile investment in Winchester's social (and health-related) fabric.

The youth of Winchester deserve a 50m swimming pool - there will still be enough green grass to play cricket and walk the dog

Please, PLEASE take this golden opportunity to make the right decision for the people, young AND old, of Winchester. You are in an unenviable situation of choosing a new leisure facility and can build from scratch so please listen to the sporting amoungst us and build a proper sized 50m swimming pool and a sprung floor gymnasium. We haved recently moved here from out the area and are quite staggered at Winchester's current lack of facilities. What an opportunity! Look at Guildford Spectrum - people come for miles to use that - the additional income it generates for the area must be incredible, in terms of contributing to sports facilities and shops and local services. Think outside the box, please, and do it right. What a fantastic legacy this could be for generations to come.
