My name is Teressa Portzer Fortner and I am a PROUD ALUMNI of WALKER HIGH SCHOOL. I graduated in the year 1989. Many of the people in and from this county graduated from this school. This city has been the "HOME OF THE WALKER VIKINGS" for as long as I can remember. My mother and my dad both graduated from this school back in 1970. My aunt and all of my uncles did too. We are all proud graduates of WALKER HIGH SCHOOL. I think this change should have been put to a vote by the people of this city and not just you! I am infuriated that you would change the name of the school just because it seems the right thing to do. Mr and Mrs City Councilman if you graduated from WALKER HIGH SCHOOL show your VIKING PRIDE and don't change it because one person believes it to be a good thing. There is too much history and memories that go along with the name WALKER HIGH SCHOOL. In the event that all of us PROUD WALKER VIKING ALUMNI don't appeal to your sense of pride in our High School, find another mascot for your new school because Jasper High School WILL NEVER BE the Vikings.

You don't have to change it. It's been walker for years. Don't make everyone mad. Y'all being stupid for changing it to the town name. If you want to build another school, then name it Jasper High School, but leave Walker as it is. It's historical in a sense.

Keep it Walker!!! Too expensive to change when you've already spent a fortune on the new building. Also, changing the name of the high school will not bring industry, jobs, etc., into Jasper and Walker County. Shame.

This it absolutely ridiculous!! Do they even realize the history behind the name not to mention the cost of buying new everything!! And who is going to paying for it the tax payers!! I think since we are technically paying for their stupid decision we should have a say!!!
