New LIU Grading Policy For Nursing Program 2015-2016

I agree!! I'm first level and I think it's unfair for those who have been in the program before me and are struggling because of the new policy. They didn't agree to those terms LIU. Don't get mad because the last class did bad on nclex. If anything the new grading policy should be IMPLEMENTED for first levelers EXCLUSIVELY like me lol. Not saying that im a supporter of the new policy either. I didn't make it to clinicals because of this grading policy. It expected a lot of us really fast and I just couldn't adapt fast enough!! Maybe if I could've factored everything else in to my grade that I did such as my concept map or lab I could've past. Anyway ... LIU if this is your plan to weed people out earlier because of a declining nclex I say good luck. People may pay a ridiculous amount of tuition to become a nurse but to have a program where the students feel there's no hope while having a 75k+ bill at the end of it all.. I'm not to sure the people will stick around for that!! My question to you LIU... How are you gonna help the new 1st level students. I have a couple friends coming into the program next semester and boyyyy the stuff I have to tell them is not good at all!!

There's a fine line between something being "difficult" to downright "unfair". Most health programs are supposed to pose some sort of challenge for the students to work hard and push on wards to their goals; the challenge isn't degrading to the point a person is placed at a disadvantage and it's fulfilling/rewarding in the end because the student knows they'll reach their goal. However within this program, those who work hard and put in the effort tend to fall short regardless of what they do; those who reached out for assistance and guidance are left out in the dark and are told to "read more" as if those five~six hours of studying wasn't enough, or "take this class next semester" as if money grows on trees. Let's be honest here, the contextual information isn't *THAT* difficult to grasp and apply within the field we desire to be in. It's the foundation and methods within the program which makes things unfair and places students at a disadvantage to proceed on wards to their goals. The nursing program is a house ready to collapse; the owners (faculty) are told by their neighbors (the students) that it's going to collapse, however they wrap duct tape and place nice portraits to cover up the holes and mistakes as if that'll fix up the house and prevent the collapse from happening. The foundation either needs to be: A.) Destroyed and rebuilt from the ground up. B.) Properly repaired (i.e. removing the new policies and establishing a fair playing field for all). Either or, it has to be done now.

We all work to hard to be in this program.

We're not asking for the grade requirements to lower, we are just asking to have all of our work count towards our class grade average... The fact that we have assignments and labs that account for about 30% of the grade, yet doesn't help us in passing a class is unfair, why do so much extra work if only tests and quizzes count? This new policy was not in place when I applied, and was a complete surprise to me and many. Other schools count lab as 25% of a grade, at LIU its only %10. Also Having NCLEX style quizes and tests the first couple of weeks is unreasonable. Let us get used to it and teach us what is expected first, ( cant really think like a nurse if We're not taught how they think) Since I started it has been one curveball after another.....

All work should be counted, Papers, lab, projects, we put time work and effort and it is not right to have that excluded and not help us with our grade.

You can't change the rules of the game mid stride.

I'm not against the new policy, in fact it's a welcomed development, but imposing it on students who were admitted based on a different term and agreement is more like breaking a contract.

Changing the battle terms midway into the contest is nothing but a strategy to put the warrior at a disadvantage, which is often borne out of fear of what the gladiator might achieve should the playing field remain as set. We are stronger together. We can do this together.

The new grading is not fair. It needs to change.

Definitely..this very grading policy does not work in favor of the students. It definitely puts us at a disadvantage
