In 1772 the townspeople of New Durham came together to build their Meetinghouse.

Two Hundred and Forty years later…. it’s time to come together again – to finally finish the restoration work and get it back in use. The 1772 Meetinghouse Restoration Committee has made some great progress over the last couple of years; •We have been able to purchase the top part of the adjoining field – which will permanently protect the view and provide ample parking for future use. •We have also brought in experts to help us put together a detailed analysis of the building as well as an action plan for properly restoring the structure. The next step is up to YOU! The total cost for restoration has been estimated at $300,000 – but if we act now we can get matching grants which will cut the restoration cost IN HALF to only $150,000! In order to qualify for these grants we have to show our willingness as a town to do our share by putting money aside now for the effort. The more money we put into a special reserve fund for the restoration – the more grants we can get and the less it will cost us in the end. And the sooner we do it – the sooner we can have our Meetinghouse back! Please sign our petition and help us tell the Selectmen that we need $20,000 a year put into the Restoration Fund – starting this year – so that we can get the job done - Promptly and affordably! TO THAT END - WE DIRECT THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN TO; •SUPPORT THE MEETINGHOUSE RESTORATION COMMITTEE IN ALL ITS EFFORTS TO MEET THIS GOAL •PUT NO LESS THAN $20,000 PER YEAR INTO THE CAPITAL RESERVE FUND THAT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE MEETINGHOUSE TO ALLOW US TO GET MATCHING GRANTS. ANY MONIES NOT NEEDED FOR THE RESTORATION SHALL BE RETURNED TO THE TAXPAYERS.
