The Best Buddies chapter at the University of Miami seeks to promote inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our society. This year, Best Buddies is trying to persuade UM to offer a new minor to its students called Disability Studies. This is a minor offered at numerous other universities such as NYU, UCLA, UC Berkley, and UMass to students to enhance their academic pursuits in areas such as special education, law, medicine, social work, psychology, neuroscience, etc. We are seeking student and faculty support to show UMiami administration that this minor is beneficial to students. Below are courses that would be included in the minor. Please sign our petition to support this effort, and share it with other members of our UM community! Thank you!
Introduction to Disability Studies
This course provides a multidisciplinary introduction to the many dimensions of Disability Studies, including the history, social, cultural, political, legal, and economic perspectives on disability in American society.
Contemporary Issues in Developmental Disabilities
Following individuals with developmental disabilities, as they face challenges in housing and education as a child to health care, employment, and long term services as an adult.
Representations of People with Disabilities
Analyzing portrayal of the disabled community through literature, films, and the art world as a whole, as well as understanding the effects of these portrayals.
Biomedical Ethics and the Disabled Community
How medical ethics relates to people with disabilities in terms of issues such as euthanasia, end of life care, and long term services.

I am a music therapy major and my goal is eventually to work with children and adults with special needs, and this would be so beneficial to me and I'm sure other music therapy majors would add this also!
I have a special needs son and college age children and a minor like this is very important.
A Disability Studies minor would be very enriching to the University of Miami's curriculum.
I think this is an incredible opportunity to expand awareness and opportunity amongt the student community. Education is key to awareness and the students here at the University of Miami are dedication to inclusion and understanding of all people.
Fortunately, Americans with disabilities are being integrated into the workforce. We need the next generation of students to be knowledgeable of their needs/talents/rights.

According to the New York Post’s story, Hunter Biden in 2015 introduced his Father, then VP in the Obama Administration, to a Top Exec Vadym Pozharskyi at Ukrainian Burisma Holdings Ltd after Hunter joined the company’s board which was Paying him up to $83,000 a Month. The insinuation is that Hunter Successfully Influenced his Father to Pressure Ukraine Government officials “into Firing the Prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was Investigating Corruption against Burisma. Facebook and Twitter took action to limit distribution (censored) the New York Post story citing Emails purportedly Revealing Evidence of Influence-Peddling by Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden. The Emails were obtained from a Laptop which had a sticker from the Beau Biden Foundation, and had been Abandoned at Computer-Repair Shop, named “The Mac Shop” in Wilmington, Delaware and owned by John Paul Mac Isaac, who then reported the laptop’s contents to authorities which determined that the laptop and hard drive contain fruits of criminal activity. Joe Biden and his family engaged in "Legal Corruption" despite claims of no wrongdoing and the Liberal Main Stream Media Refuses to Talk and will never Report about Hunter Biden’s laptop and emails, fearing Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden will Lose the 2020 Election if this information is exposed to the American People. This is evidence that Joe Biden participated in his Family’s CASH-for-Influence Scheme with Shady Foreign Companies. The American People should be demanding that the Media investigate this scandal before they VOTE, but we know, the Media will never report on Hunter Biden’s emails because it would be harmful to Joe Biden.

I am a part of best buddies in my high school now and I am going to be an incoming freshman to the class of 2023. I would have loved to have this as a minor!
