This proposed start time change will completely discourage 2-parent working families from considering New Canaan. And if current 2-parent working families can sell their house they will leave too!

There should be equal care for all our children and that includes school start times.

With the school start times as is our children are not suffering. High schoolers are doing fantastic in their sports, academics, theater programs, etc. Middle schoolers and elementary school kids are thriving. Nothing needs to be changed. Please keep the school start times as is and put our tax $ towards something else that requires change.

This plan cheats our youngest students out of sleep and family time.

Current plan is working. Proposed plan is not practical for the students and their parents. Rework it.

I want to see my children during the week. This start time would mean they need to be in bed before I get home.

Thank you for starting this petition. 1,000 signatures in <24 hours is an ambitious goal given the size of our community. Good luck!

No research to support an excessively early start time for 5-10 year oldd

No child should start school until after 8:30. This was the way 30 years ago in New Canaan until budget cuts were made that put our children’s health at risk for Cheaper busing. No child should start school before 8:30. At any cost. Period. I will homeschool/send my children to private school if New Canaan doesn’t support my children’s health.

There has to be a middle ground for the elementary students. 7:45 is too early, and 9:15 makes the whole day too late. This is the school level they spend the most years, this is not a solution to the teens getting more sleep.

I do not support the proposed start time of 7:45am for elementary, or the estimated costs associated with it. I also do not believe our town can absorb elementary dismissal of 2:15pm given the lack of childcare in New Canaan. This is devastating to working parents of young children.

Elementary school children definitely need their sleep more than middle and high school children. An earlier start for elementary children is absurd.

Working mothers ask you to reconsider the early start time.

As a working parent with young kids at East this proposed early time will not work at all and cost me a lot of money in child care.

Please honor the majority voices of our town!

I am hopeful that the Board of Ed can find a better solution. Other school districts are moving start times without incurring such a drastic, difficult elementary start time. This seems like a lot of money to spend on a plan that is detrimental to many children and families in our community.
