WHY NOT THE RIGHT FOR AN INDIVIDUAL TO BEAR NUCLEAR ARMS?
There has been an ongoing argument in America whether the second amendment right to bear arms applies to a well regulated militia or individual rights. One only needs to look at the real purpose of the right to bear arms - to ensure freedom from dictatorial oppression from within or outside. At the time of the second amendment, there were few weapons of mass destruction. Taking this to a "reductio ad absurdum," the amendment only makes sense today if this right means equality in the arms needed by a state or individual to resist oppression. Reducing this to the absurd, this right could include nuclear arms. How else can a state or individual in this modern age protect freedom where no type of handheld gun can resist an oppressors weapons of mass destruction?
