Many people, young or old, aren't surrounded by any kind of homosexual/transgender/etc role models. So shows like The L-Word are important for them to see they're not alone with their struggles, fears and so on.
And showing it on Netflix is not only about the LGBT community, it is also setting a point to those who aren't as accepting and tolerant as I hope human beeings will be at some point.

Bette Porter has been my inspiration growing up. Being comfortable with herself, successful, a family, a great group of friends, great style, and her relationship with Tina (aside from that time...). I know NOT ONE LESBIAN like her. And so she was the role model that I had. She lived a life I wanted as a young girl. Girls today need someone like that.

I NEED MORE LESBIAN WOMEN TO RELATE TO! Sick of misrepresentations or the idealistic view towards a happy relationship/woman in media/entertainment.

Where I grew up, there are no lesbians. And no one believes feminine lesbians exist. This show really shows people that you can still be feminine and successful and not have to be a stereotypical lesbian. This will open the minds of a lot of people who don't know many lesbians.
