While floods may be a part of life here in Nelson, potential damage from floods can be reduced if, as a community, we take the right precautions. I hope the BoS will quickly finish the job that Tim Padalino and the Planning Commission so wisely started and have worked so hard on over the past several months.

My Father lived in the Roanoke Valley, we live in the Rockfiah Valley,where my husband and I have gone many times to volunteer to clean up and rebuild after their many floods. So much suffering could have been avoided if the governments of the Roanoke Valley had enacted better regulations for building , bridge height , permeable paving, agricultural practice and vehicle storage regulations. As Nelson can and does flood after minor rain events every year, please sign to strengthen the flood plane regulations for Nelson County.

We need these additional protections. There is no downside to adopting these new ordinances in order to keep up with changing land uses in the county.

I am very concerned about our county with its steep slopes and regular flooding in heavy rain. For these reasons I endorse the amendment to the floodplain ordinance.
