Do you want to have a say over where new homes, shops and offices are built? Maybe you want to improve your high street? Or protect your favourite local spaces? Or ensure there are enough new homes for young families? Neighbourhood Planning could be right up your street.

See this video. Neighbourhood Plans are backed by the Government through the Localism Act and many neighbourhoods have already started plans and have taken pro-active planning control of their local areas.

In Transition in Kings, we have presented an outline proposal for a Kings Langley Neighbourhood Plan to the Parish Council but the Council failed to support the idea. As your Councillors, they would take notice of a petition with enough support.

A Neighbourhood Plan would form part of the Borough development plan and sits alongside a local plan prepared by Dacorum. Decisions on planning applications would be made using both the Local Plan AND the Neighbourhood Plan, and any other material considerations.

Neighbourhood Planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. They are able to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided, and grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead.

Neighbourhood Planning provides a powerful set of tools for local people to ensure that they get the right types of development for their community where the ambition of the neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.
