On April 10, 2017 the Perry City Council held a meeting in regards to, among other items, the rezoning of the property at the NW corner of Sandefur Rd. and Danny Carpenter Dr. Several residents from the neighborhoods surrounding the subject property spoke out against the rezoning. After much discussion, the Council voted unanimously to recommend to the mayor of Perry that the petition to rezone should be rejected. Shortly after said meeting, a new proposal was brought forth to the council from the developer stating that, ..."the developer's intent now is to develop single-family detached residences on the 104.95 acres and a day care center on the 2.16 acre plot"... this being said, the City Council has REVISED THEIR RECOMMENDATION stating that single family residences and a day care should be fine. The next few weeks are imperative in having the City Council and mayor of Perry understand how against this rezoning the surrounding community is. This petition is strictly going to be used as a show of force to let the council and mayor know just how many of their future voters are against this proposal, should it continue with approval.
