We have lived in Westside Preserve for 10 years and the zoning issue has been a topic of controversy ever since we moved in. Our daughter attended Westside Elementary K-5th grade and then last year was split from her friends to attend HMS and VRHS. Over the past two years, she has made new friends and due to the recent zoning changes will now be sent back to attend CPHS and will have to start over building new friendships. These changes are negatively effecting our children. Please allow us the two options as described in the petitions. Thank you.

Next year I will have two children in high school (9th and 11th) and a child in 6th grade. I am counting on my son in 11th grade to drive my 6th grader to CPMS on his way to CPHS. There is no way he would be able to drive to Henry MS. Please keep transfers to CPMS open as they have been for our neighborhood for years.

Re-open the transfers to CPMS for our school zone. This will provide the option for our children to progress alongside the majority of their elementary school friends to CPMS and to CPHS
Re-open the transfers to VRHS for our school zone. This will provide the option for our children currently attending HMS to be able to progress with their HMS friends to VRHS.

My two oldest children were lucky enough to attend Westside, Henry, and Vista. Both CPMS and CPHS are great schools with fantastic programs. I live very close to Westside Elementary. As a parent it is my responsibility to make sure my kids are raised to know right from wrong, to be trustworthy productive members of our community, and of course to give them every opportunity to be happy.
I work from home and make sure my youngest (he attends Henry) is involved in the events at the High School he will hopes to attend. He sees his big brother in Band doing amazing things. His big sister is graduating and has had wonderful high school experiences. He is in Band at Henry. He has new friends. He has cousins that go to Henry. Now this "REZONING" has raised its ugly head again (this rezoning issue has come up several times)...we who live in Westside or very nearby have lived in fear of losing the right to choose for our children where they can attend school for to MANY YEARS!. We need a permanent COMPROMISE!!!
My son has already said he does not want to leave Henry. He wants to be a part of and earn for himself the same legacy his older Sister and Brother have. He feels threatened. He is only twelve. Without a compromise this will take away the things he loves about school.
Just remember what I said if none of my rant matters to you...
My son doesn't want it and he will remember that we (as adults) let him down if this goes through. The other children may feel the same as my son.
I pray that a compromise will be forthcoming.

My son is a freshman in CPHS. He attended HMS and we asked for a transfer to VRHS but was declined. Needless to say, this was very disappointing. My son had a rough time making new friends. He still root for VRHS games even though he goes to CPHS. He still don't feel like this is his high school. I have 2 more kids and this rezoning issue will affect them as well. We love our home and area. We don't want to me be but it has crossed our mind. Having the option to transfer would be at least a compromise.

Yes very strange to expect a few kids to go to a different HS than the rest of of thier middle school friends. Both VRHS and CPHS are great, but should feed complete middle school to a high school not just a small % of the kids to VRHS.

Both CP and VR are good high schools. Both CPM and HMS are good middle schools. But please allow are children to attend one continuous track or the other, not split them up!

I want my kids to make friends & get to stay by their side throuout their schooling experience. I believe making them change schools (& therefore having to make new friends) several times will have negative emotional impact - especially when it's hard enough for kids to move to a new building & new educational structure as they switch from elementary to middle school to high school. Let's do everything we can to reduce the emotional stress so the kids can truly focus on what they are there for - education. I also do not appreciate the idea of having to drive across town when all of the school levels are within 2 miles of my house - that would be ridiculous. I chose my home partially based on the fact that my kids would always be close to home, where I feel they are safest. So you are causing emotional stress on parents as well. I want my kids to attend Westside (in my neighborhood), CP Middle school & CP High School (all within 2 miles of my home).
