Beautiful, peaceful haven the people of the town to enjoy - totally against a road through it in any way shape or form. Some chap plnned this without ever having set foot in the place, no dubt. Back to the drawing board!

Some recommendations...the Demesne was gifted to the people of Newcastle West and should remain that way. It has been, and is, used in many different ways which are vital to the Community. Having 100acres of land, it is a hub for flora and fauna, and plays an important role in the Sli na Slainte trails. We see this as the green lung of Newcastle West, and many people from the surrounding areas come to the town to use the land recreationally. Currently we have tennis courts, a childs play park, GAA sports grounds, a community centre and much more in the area. These have played part of the Community for many generations. This will be lost with the proposed road. To lose such social heritage would be detrimental to the town, which is already facing economical problems. The town is very focused on community, in particular through sport, and the GAA and the demense has long been a training ground for these activities. Shcools use it for sports days, groups gather for training sessions, walks, jogs, nature walks etc. It is not a wasteland, nor forgotten agricultural or commercially zoned land. It is a public space, used to great potential. Our children spend their Summers there, as did I and my ancestors. Our voices should be heard and listened to. We live in the town, not the Councillors or Planners who are proposing this do. To take away an amenity so important would cause devastation to the town, to the people, to the flora and fauna. It would have an impact on traffic flow through the town and drastically change how the town will be used. It will affect businesses (which of course is the last thing the town needs). In addition, there is a sense of heritage there, which connects the land to the castle and the town. Locals speak of the Demesne with pride when they want to show the best of the town off. Pride in a town is very important, and taking something away that we are proud of will only increase further resentment to the local planners, councillers and government.
